The beauty of this Museum is that they don't have too much money and don't cater to "boutique, sponsored" exhibitions. National Gallery of Art Washington Museum created in 1937 for the people of the United States by a joint resolution of Congress, accepting the gift of financier and art collector Andrew W. Mellon. The Whitney Museum of American Art Art museum with a focus on 20th and 21st century American art, placing particular emphasis on exhibiting the work of living artists. Annual and Biennial exhibits are a venue for young and less well-known artists whose work is showcased by the museum. The Frick Collection Housed in the New York mansion built by Henry Clay Frick, the collection highlights masterpieces of Western art in its 16 galleries. Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum This is the only American museum exclusively dedicated to historic and contemporary design. It is currently undergoing an $54 million renovation and will reopen in Fall 2013. Guggenheim Museum Housed in the famous building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Guggenheim Museum's architecture is as significant as the permanent collection and special exhibits. The Morgan Library and Museum Rembrandt and Mozart, Bob Dylan, Dickens and Hemingway, The Gutenberg Bibles and The 1906 Library Restoration, The Morgan Library and Museum is "extra special, in a class of its own." Neue Galerie New York Museum of early 20th century German and Austrian art and design and recent addition to NYC's Museum Mile. It was conceived by art dealer Serge Sabarsky and Ron Lauder of the ladies cosmetics fortune. Warning: Visitors treated poorly. Norton Simon Musuem Highlights from the superb Norton Simon Collection housed in the elaborate new Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California. The J. Paul Getty Museum The Getty website reflects the Los Angeles institution's dedication to education, collection, and preservation of works of fine art. The Huntington Highlights from the California museum's collections of Paintings, Sculptures, Rare Books, Manuscripts, and Decorative Arts and a Virtual Reality Tour of the magnificent Huntington Botanical Gardens. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art Website features permanent collections, film and music programs, current shows, special online exhibits, and ongoing schedules of classes, tours and lectures.
